Fans Call for a Memorial to Honor Randy Rhoads

The story of Randy Rhoads has always carried a sense of unfinished brilliance. Rising to fame as the guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, Rhoads helped shape a new sound in heavy metal with his mix of classical influence and aggressive playing. That momentum came to a sudden end in 1982, when Rhoads died at just 25 years old in a tragic plane crash during a tour. The accident shocked the music world and left a lasting void, especially for fans who felt he had only begun to show what he was capable of. What started as a conversation quickly turned into a shared goal: creating a meaningful tribute in Burbank, where Rhoads grew up.

Together, they identified Stough Canyon Park as the ideal location. The park held personal significance for Rhoads and his family, making it more than just a symbolic choice. It offered the possibility of a tribute rooted in memory rather than just recognition.

To build support, Lonero launched an online petition that quickly gathered thousands of signatures in a short time. The response showed that interest in honoring Rhoads is far from niche. Fans continue to rally behind the idea, hoping to convince local officials that the guitarist deserves a permanent place in the city that shaped him.

Building a Memorial for the Future

Early plans for the memorial suggest something both reflective and visually striking. The concept includes a statue of Rhoads playing guitar, surrounded by a small pool of water, with benches placed nearby to invite quiet reflection. It’s designed to be more than a landmark—it’s meant to be an experience.

The project, however, comes with a significant cost, estimated between $200,000 and $250,000. To meet that goal, organizers are looking toward sponsorships and crowdfunding, allowing fans to contribute directly. This approach adds a personal layer, giving supporters a sense of ownership in the tribute.

While the project is still in its early stages, one thing remains clear: the intention is to involve Rhoads’ family in every major decision. From the design to the wording on the plaque, their voice will guide the final result.
