It makes sense to say that Paul McCartney has had a lot of hits in his musical career, but not on someone else’s face. However, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder could oppose that, recalling that one time the Beatle legend punched him, by accident of course.

Vedder was a guest host on SiriusXM’s new The Beatles Channel and recalled how Paul McCartney once accidentally smacked him in the face. The musician claimed that the two were in a pub in Seattle, where the former Beatle was telling a macho story about himself.

“He kind of was illustrating how he hit this guy, and when he did that, he shot out his left arm as if he was hitting this guy, and I was standing there, and I got hit,” Vedder said in the channel. “He hit me! He didn’t quite pull back the punch, you see.”

McCartney immediately apologized for the accident, and then went on to tell the rest of the story. Vedder remembered tasting “a bit of blood;” nonetheless, he finished listening to Macca’s story, all while grasping the reality that the latter punched him.

“I remember it hurt for a few days, and I remember when it went away, and when the pain finally subsided and the swelling went down, I kind of missed it,” Vedder explained.
