Like Father, Like Son

These days, Eagles fans look forward to seeing a familiar face share the stage with the Eagles as Deacon Frey steps into some of rock music’s biggest shoes and joins the Eagles in place of his father, Glenn Frey.

Glenn, who died in 2016 at the age of 67 following a series of health battles, no doubt would have approved of his surviving bandmates’ decision to recruit 23-year-old Deacon – after all, who better to fill in for Glenn than his own son who actually looks and sounds quite a bit like his old man?

A fiercely gifted musician in his own right, Deacon spent his entire life preparing for this moment whether he knew it or not; a regular staple at the House of Blues benefit for Africa Schoolhouse, he shared the stage with his dad for several years and impressed the audience with a natural musical ability that until Glenn’s death was nurtured under the watchful eye of one of rock’s most beloved frontmen.

While there isn’t any footage of Deacon playing or singing Eagles tunes, we do have a pretty fun video of Deacon and Glenn trading licks on a cover of Eric Clapton’s “Change the World” that beautifully showcases both the striking similarities between father and son as well as the things that are so uniquely Deacon Frey, the world has no way of preparing for what this young man has to offer.

Check out Glenn and Deacon’s take on “Change the World” featuring special guests Don Was and his son, Henry, in the video below!
