Roger Waters Reveals His Favorite Leonard Cohen Song

Roger Waters is a legend all thanks to his tenure from the band Pink Floyd. His sheer magnificence on creating songs are farfetched and innovative; without his driving force after the departure of Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd is basically in hot water.

The importance of Waters as an upright musician also speaks with how well he is at picking his favorite heroes in music. Among the long list of his favorites is Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, who also happens to be a poet and a novelist.

While the two never shared a common interest to start with, there is something about Cohen’s words and wisdom that always left Waters in awe, and he shares this sentiment when he was invited to a BBC Radio 4 program named Desert Island Discs.

Desert Island Discs is considered a classic; something of a comfort radio broadcast that has been around since the 40s. The rules of the station are to simply pick out 8 songs that a person loves to bring when stuck on an island. Inside the broadcast, Waters mentioned Cohen dearly: “Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan were the two men who allowed us to believe that there was an open door between poetry and song lyrics. This song of his, ‘Bird On The Wire’, is so simple, so moving, so brilliant. I love it,” he expressed.
