When Peter Gabriel got his much-awaited induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, everyone knew that he deserved all the praise he got. Most especially, when he performed his pivotal hit, “In Your Eyes,” with a monstrous duet with Senegalese legend Youssou N’Dour. The video can be seen below.

Chris Martin of Coldplay inducted the former Genesis singer in 2014, and praised the singer for his journey, particularly with his hit album, So. “He turned into a superstar with two little letters,” Martin said. After Gabriel’s speech is the highly-anticipated performance of the star, which is composed of two Us classics: “Digging in the Dirt” and “Washing of the Water,” with Martin joining him. Afterward was the performance of “In Your Eyes;” we’re telling you, the same old vigor and vibrance of Gabriel was still prominent after all these years.

“In Your Eyes” was written by Gabriel inside his seminal album, So, released in 1986. The song’s lyrics were said to be inspired by the ambiguity of a man and a woman’s love, or with a person and his God. Youssou N’Dour sang back-up for the song, and sparked a friendship with Gabriel, with them mutually respecting each other’s music. The song was also featured in the 1989 film Say Anything, starring John Cusack and Ione Skye, in the iconic scene where Cusack plays the song on a boom box that he’s holding over his head.

N’Dour completed the ensemble onstage to reprise his vocal role. Everyone in the audience was dancing and swaying, a clear sign that they were having fun with this timeless gem. Gabriel, N’Dour, and the rest of the musicians onstage celebrated the musician’s win with his biggest hit; as they should.
