Elton John dedicated an emotional number during his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour in Iowa to the late Foo Fighters’ drummer, Taylor Hawkins. The footage of the video can be seen below.

Hawkins died last March 25 in Bogota, Colombia, at age 50. The drummer’s sudden death was announced on Foo Fighters’ Twitter page, with no details included on the reason for his passing. John is among the countless artists who paid their respects to the rocker.

Like many others, the singer was shocked to find out about Hawkins’ death, and labeled him as “one of the nicest people you could have ever met and one of the greatest drummers.”

“And it seems so sad that at 50 years of age we’ve lost someone that had that much passion,” John said. “And it makes me so downhearted for his family and his three children, his wife, his other relatives, and of course the Foo Fighters have lost a dearest loved one that can never ever be replaced.”

Ending his message with a sweet note, John said: “His music will live on, but I can tell you he was a great, great guy.”

John began to perform “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” from his 1974 album Caribou. In front of his piano, he delivered an emotional set that could melt your heart.
