At the “Aerosmith Apartment” in Boston, Massachusetts, frontman Steven Tyler surprised fans before the band’s 50th-anniversary concert at Fenway Park.

The building at 1325 Commonwealth Ave. in the Allston section of Boston was formerly home to all five of Aerosmith’s original members: Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton, and Tyler. According to rumor, the band laid down the tracks for their classic song “Dream On” in the apartment’s basement back in the early 1970s.

Per Boston Globe, the present tenants were given advance notice that five logos, including that of the rock band Aerosmith, would be projected onto the exterior of the building. As the two of the tenants went outside to take pictures of the pulsating lights, that became a time when a black SUV drew up and Tyler got out. The singer spent a good 20 minutes taking pictures and signing autographs for fans.

Lindsey Foley, one of the tenants in the building, said at the event: “He was talking about where the liquor store was when they used to live there and pointing down the street. And how they used to set up recording equipment in the basement of the building and soundproofed it so they could have a private rehearsal space.”
