Farm Aid is a substantial concert that benefits worthy farmers to help them with their financial needs. The event was first spearheaded by music legends Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Neil Young, with its first concert held in 1985. Since then, Farm Aid’s longevity is noticeable.

Below is footage from the first Farm Aid concert, held on September 22, 1985, in Champaign, Illinois, showing Young performing “Hey Hey, My My (Out of the Blue)” to kick off his set. In the following 35 years, Young always found time in his schedule for Farm Aid, no matter what else was going on in his life or career.

However, fans were saddened by the news of Young’s refusal to perform at the event last year 2021, and this year, citing Covid-19 restrictions. This marks the second time that Young didn’t perform for the benefit. Since the 2019 edition of Farm Aid at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin, Young hasn’t performed in front of a live audience again.

In response to a fan’s inquiry regarding potential tour dates, he commented last year: “Not till I knew the audience is safe.”

As of now, let’s enjoy this lovely gem until Neil Young can finally stand in front of thousands of people once more for Farm Aid.
