It is safe to say that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards’ songwriting collaboration is among the most prolific songwriting partnerships in the history of music, and it is still active to this day. The vast bulk of the Rolling Stones’ discography was created as a result of their musical collaboration, and songs written by Jagger and Richards have remained popular over the years.

It’s a love-hate relationship between the two faces of the Rolling Stones’ façade. But, when it comes to generating songs, surprisingly, the two collaborate well with each other. “There’s a guy called Mick Jagger that I love to write with, but it’s hard to get my hands on him,” Richards joked during his Noisey interview. “I wait for him to come to me, that’s why sometimes it takes a while … but so far so good. We’re working on it.”

Their songs have been covered by a wide variety of artists, ranging from Motley Crue, Kiss, and Range Against the Machine, classic artists like Otis Redding, Jerry Lee Lewis, Aretha Franklin, and Tina Turner, to contemporary stars like Britney Spears and Pitbull.

Here’s a young Mick Jagger talking about the Jagger-Richards music partnership in a short clip of an interview below.
