Another legend of the music industry has left us. Dr. John, or Malcolm John Rebennack in real life, has passed away due to a heart attack on June 6, 2019.

Dr. John was known for his work in various genres, including rock, blues, and jazz. Hailing from New Orleans, Dr. John started his musical career by playing with local bands in his high school. He eventually climbed the ladder, and started playing all over the city, ranging from strip clubs, to music halls.

Dr. John saw the beginning of his professional career when he relocated to Hollywood, where he became one of the most demanded session musicians, and became a part of the legendary Wrecking Crew. With this, he had the chance to play with big names such as The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, among others.

His solo career boomed with his release of Gris Gris, and introduced the unique sound of voodoo funk to the masses. His one-of-a-kind showmanship and distinct vocals made him one of the top acts of the 70’s.

Read the statement posted on his official Twitter profile, notifying fans of the tragic incident.
