In 2003, when AC/DC was being considered for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they had just one person in mind: Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. In an interview with Billboard from 2003, the late Malcolm Young said that Tyler’s name had “sprung to mind straight away” when he wanted to express gratitude to the singer for his kindness during their early years together.

“When we first came to the States… we were doing sort of club dates and things like that,” Young recalled. “[Aerosmith] heard we were in the country and they got us put on as a support act for ‘em. And when [Tyler] would do interviews he would talk about us, too. He got us onto The Midnight Special.”

AC/DC, an Australian rock band that formed in Sydney in 1973, has sold over 200 million albums worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time. They impacted numerous bands with albums like Highway To Hell (1979) and Back In Black (1980); the latter being the first album that featured Brian Johnson as the singer, replacing the late Bon Scott.

So, how do you get the most out of the audience at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Insist that AC/DC play, and then invite Steven Tyler of Aerosmith onstage for a killer rock duet! The pairing of Steven and Johnson onstage was a pleasant experience, but not a surprise of course.

You can watch the band’s performance of “You Shook Me All Night Long” with Tyler in the video presented here.
