Timotheé Chalamet, who plays Bob Dylan in a forthcoming biopic, will also provide his own vocals for the film. The film, which has been in the works for a long time but still needs a title, is said to center on Dylan’s formative years. The most well-known example is when he ditched his acoustic instrument in favor of an electric one, which was welcomed with equal parts praise and condemnation.

James Mangold, the film’s director, was asked about whether or not Timothée Chalamet will be singing in the film instead of Bob Dylan in an interview with Collider. His response was an enthusiastic “Of Course!” Mangold also said production on the biopic will begin in August.

Bob Dylan’s biopic wouldn’t be the only movie that would require the 27-year-old actor to sing on cam. Another upcoming movie, Wonka, a story that details the life of the fictional character Willy Wonka, has a total of 7 musical numbers in the film alone. When questioned by Collider about the pressures of singing in a movie, Chalamet said: “I hate to say it, but the dream as an artist is to throw whatever the f**k you want at the wall, you know? And I guess what I’m realising is that one’s personal life, one’s adult life, can be quite boring and the artist’s life can still be extraordinary.”

More details will follow, but for now, check out the full interview with James Mangold below.
