Change is constant; even people we knew our whole lives may one day change into someone that we could barely recognize. A lot of these moments seem to happen even in the music industry, and Aerosmith bandmates Joe Perry and Steven Tyler seem to have experienced it as well.

Perry and Tyler’s friendship has had its ups and downs. At one point, Perry and Tyler had a major dispute, which resulted in Perry departing Aerosmith midway through the recording of Night in the Ruts, with the remainder of his parts being covered by temporary guitarists. But, a few years later, he came back and the two sorted out their feelings – a true testament to their friendship.

But, it seemed as though their friendship is under hot waters once more when Tyler, shocked the fans with news that he is going to be the judge of American Idol on seasons 10th and 11th. Some applauded Tyler for sharing his talents as a judge, while others, especially the Aerosmith guitarist, this news didn’t sit well.

“It’s a reality show designed to get people to watch that station and sell advertising,” Perry once explained in an interview with Calgary Herald back in 2010. “It’s one step above [Teenage Mutant] ‘Ninja Turtles.’”

He further added: “I’ll tell you one thing when we put this band together; this is not something that [Steven] would do. It’s his business, but I don’t want Aerosmith’s name involved with it. We have nothing to do with it.” Joe just couldn’t grasp the idea of why someone like Tyler would cave in for something like being a judge on a TV show to cash in some bucks.
