There are too many bands to pick as our favorite band ever. But if you even want to join the debate of which is the greatest band ever: The Beatles or The Rolling Stones, you might want to listen to what the late Motörhead founder Lemmy Kilmister has to say regarding such.

In a 2011 interview with Louder Than War’s John Robb, Kilmister recounted seeing the Beatles perform at the legendary Cavern Club. He said: “I saw the Beatles play the Cavern. These chicks had been going on about them, and I had to check them out. They were amazing – the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band ever. You could tell something was happening.”

He further explained why he adored the Fab Four. “They were the real deal; the [Rolling] Stones were too art school; the Beatles were real working class. They were a great rock and roll band. The Beatles kept doing great rock ‘n’ roll right till the end. ‘Back in the U.S.S.R.’ is a great piece of rock n roll, as good as anything I’ve heard. There was always a rocking song on a Beatles album.”

Lemmy was a huge Beatles fan and was never shy about showing it. He even credited Sir Paul McCartney as one of the people who helped him find a direction when he was lost on what to do in the industry.

Indeed, the Beatles was Lemmy’s favorite rock band of all time.
