In a recent interview with People, Sammy Hagar delved into the escalating tension between David Lee Roth (DLR) and Wolfgang Van Halen, offering his perspective on the matter. The discussion unfolded ahead of MusiCares’ Person of the Year ceremony and concert honoring Jon Bon Jovi at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Reflecting on Roth’s Public Remarks About Wolfgang

Hagar hinted at underlying jealousy, stating,

“Look, if you really think about what he said, it’s like, do I sense a little tinge of jealousy in there or something? Does he feel like he’s left out or something? I mean, honestly, the only thing I can say without being cruel is he needs to find a new dispensary. That one’s not working for him.”

The feud came to light through a viral YouTube video titled ‘This Crazy Kid..,’ where Roth voiced grievances about Wolfgang allegedly seeking more attention during their performances. Roth’s frustration was evident as he recounted instances where he believed Wolfgang disrupted the tour dynamics by expressing dissatisfaction to various team members. In the video, Roth exclaimed,

“This f*cking kid, he’s complaining the entire tour like I’m not paying enough attention to him on stage. Like Santa Claus coming down the chimney and popping out on Christmas with nobody paying attention. Shalom to the dome, homie. I’m giving him the best. Everything I’ve got in front of twenty, thirty thousand people at a clip, and he’s complaining to everybody around me — the business manager, the security guy, the clothing lady — ‘Dave’s not paying enough attention to me.’”

Roth Experienced Feelings of Betrayal from Wolfgang’s Actions

Tensions between Roth and Wolfgang reached a peak during a performance at Jones Beach, New York, where Roth felt betrayed by Wolfgang’s actions. Roth recounted an incident where Wolfgang instructed security to eject two women Roth had invited, further exacerbating the rift between them.

Additionally, Roth reminisced about their last concert together at the Hollywood Bowl, which was marred by another altercation involving Wolfgang. According to Roth, Wolfgang’s decision to have security remove a woman from backstage, who happened to be Roth’s guest and the crew’s accountant, added fuel to the already tense situation.
