We love New Year’s celebrations together with our favorite artists in their prime. With that in mind, we’ll take a throwback with this 1968 footage of a rock n’ roll Paris concert together with our faves: The Who, Small Faces, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, The Equals, and lots more. The concert was held on New Year’s eve in Paris, France.

ORTF, the sole French TV station at the time, aired the three-and-a-half-hour New Year’s Even Surprise Party. Many well-known people from the fields of fashion, music, art, and cinema were in attendance, and they all looked fabulous in the newest trends. This performance forever enshrined a cultural transition point in the 1960s, between the glittering style of 1968 and the burgeoning rebellion of 1969. Apart from the aforementioned artists, the following musicians were also present: The Troggs, Françoise Hardy, Jacques Dutronc, Booker T & The MGs, and Marie Laforet.

In the video, Pink Floyd can be seen struggling to find the right foundation for their music. After losing Syd Barrett, their lead singer and primary lyricist, the band had gone to a transitional phase of finding who they truly were as musical artists. They had gotten back on track by 1969 when they released Ummagumma, their fourth studio album.
