Hailing from a musical family, the Everly Brothers – comprised of Don and Phil Everly – were known to be pioneers of the country-rock sound thanks to their steel-string acoustic guitar playing and close harmony singing. But before they rose as a standalone act, the Everly Brothers were part of the even earlier incarnation of the group called the Everly Family, with their father and mother Ike and Margaret Everly completing the lineup.

Known for songs like “Bye Bye Love”, “All I Have to Do is Dream”, and “Wake Up Little Susie”, the musical duo sought the help of Felice and Boudleaux Bryant for most of their songwriting needs. They then signed onto Warner Bros. Records and pushed out “Cathy’s Clown”, which was written by the group and became their bestselling single. Down the line, the Everly Brothers’ growing disputes with their management, along with drug use and the changing of times, hit the group hard and led to their decline in the 70s, breaking up in 1973.

Fast forward to 1983, the Everly Brothers got back together and continued to make music and perform until Phil’s passing in 2014. Watch the duo’s reunion concert in 1983 by clicking on the video below.
