Paul McCartney Answers The Question: The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones | I Love Classic Rock Videos

Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney - The Howard Stern Show / Youtube

In a continuation of The Howard Stern Show’s online streaming series with the great Paul McCartney joining in via call – Stern asked the former Beatle a million-dollar question.

Stern was straightforward about it, asking away with: “I’m not asking you to be pompous about this…The Beatles are better than the Rolling Stones. Am I correct?” McCartney, slightly taken aback with the humorous question, stifled a laugh and responded, “Well, you know you’re gonna persuade me to agree on that one…I’ve always said it. But the thing is, the Stones are a fantastic group. I gotta see them every time they come out cause they’re just a great, great band. And Mick can really tie the singing and the moves and everything…keys. And Ronnie, and Charlie…I mean, they’re great! I love them.”

“They’re just rooted in the blues, and so, when they’re writing stuff, it’s [something] to do with the blues,” McCartney continued. “Keith once said to me, ‘You lucky man. You have four singers in your band, we got one.’ So you know, there’s a lot of differences, but I love the stones. But I’m with you, the Beatles were better,” he noted, eliciting laughter from Robin Quiver.
