A cassette demo featuring a song Paul McCartney wrote for his friend and ex-bandmate Ringo Starr will be auctioned off.

Via BBC, the song “Angel In Disguise” was written for Ringo Starr’s 1992 album Time Takes Time but was not included in the release. The said tape has two versions of the song, one being a demo by McCartney and the other being a fuller track with Starr on lead vocals and lusher instrumentation with backing vocals in the mix.

The lead sheet’s photo surfaced, which lists McCartney as the sole songwriter on the song, also features notes of the basic melody, chords, and lyrics. The opening lyrics read: “My name is Ritchie / Let me look into your eyes / Don’t be afraid / I’m just an angel in disguise.” There is another track that is included on the tape, a demo of “Everyone Wins”, which made its way into Starr’s 2010 album, Y Not.

Owned by former Radio Luxembourg DJ Tony Prince, the cassette will be up for auction on May 19 under Omega Records. The price is estimated to run at approximately $25,000, and will have 25% of the profits going to the NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Urgent appeal – the rest will go to Prince’s United DJ radio station project.

“It’s fantastic to be able to bring to the market a previously unheard and unreleased track. We think the track certainly had enough about it to be included in the album, and I am sure if Paul was to release this himself, it would certainly prove a hit with fans,” says Paul Fairweather of Omega Auctions.
