David Grohl Reveals That His Favorite Song Is From George Harrison

George Harrison may not have written as many songs for The Beatles as his bandmates, but his songwriting prowess was undeniable. While his solo career showcased his skills even more, modern musicians like Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters drew inspiration from Harrison. Grohl revealed that the Beatles song that resonated with him the most was Harrison’s “Something.”
Released as a double A-side single with “Come Together” in 1969, “Something” became an instant classic. It was the only Beatles song penned by Harrison to reach the top spot on the charts. Grohl, during a BBC Radio 2 interview commemorating the 50th anniversary of Abbey Road, expressed his admiration for Harrison and decided to perform “Something” as a tribute.
“I would like to play my favorite song by George Harrison, called ‘Something’,” Grohl shared. “Of all The Beatles, there was something about him that I almost preferred the most.”
Grohl also acknowledged Harrison’s influence on his own guitar playing. In the song “Oh, George” by the Foo Fighters, he aimed to emulate Harrison’s style in the guitar solo. Grohl described the guitar solo in “Something” as one of the most classic and beautiful solos of all time.
“Melodically, it’s safe to say that it’s one of the most classic guitar solos of all time. Such a beautiful song,” Grohl remarked.
Grohl is not the only artist who holds a deep appreciation for “Something.” The song has received critical acclaim and has been covered by numerous artists, including Elvis Presley, James Brown, and Frank Sinatra. Even Paul McCartney, Harrison’s former bandmate, hailed it as Harrison’s greatest track and acknowledged its significance in boosting his confidence as a songwriter.
“I thought it was George’s greatest track… They were possibly his best three,” McCartney shared. “When an album comes up, Lennon and McCartney go and write some stuff… But he finally came up with ‘Something’ and a couple of other songs that were great, and I think everyone was very pleased for him.”
Through his heartfelt compositions, George Harrison left an indelible mark on the music world, and his song “Something” continues to captivate and inspire musicians across generations.
