American rock legend, Bruce Springsteen, recently opened up about his health struggles and discussed the future of his career. The renowned ‘Born to Run’ singer shared an update on his battle with peptic ulcer disease, which led to the postponement of some of his world tour dates. In a recent interview with SiriusXM, Springsteen revealed the challenges he faced and his determination to return to the stage.

Bruce Springsteen’s Battle with Peptic Ulcer Disease

The 74-year-old musician faced a period of uncertainty as he battled the painful symptoms of peptic ulcer disease. This condition causes open sores to develop on the stomach lining, resulting in intense abdominal pain. Springsteen explained, “You sing with your diaphragm… My diaphragm was hurting so badly that when I went to make the effort to sing, it was killing me, you know?” Even the adrenaline rush that often helps performers push through live shows couldn’t alleviate his pain this time.

During this difficult period, Springsteen found himself unable to sing at all. He described it as a dark time in his life, saying, “I literally couldn’t sing… and that lasted for two or three months, along with just a myriad of other painful problems.” The uncertainty of whether he would ever be able to perform again weighed heavily on his mind. Singing, which he loves dearly, was temporarily taken out of his grasp.

Fortunately, Springsteen received reassurance from others that his health would eventually improve. He spoke about the encouraging words he received, saying, “People told me, ‘Oh no. It’s gonna go away, and you’re gonna be OK.'” This news came after a difficult period where it seemed no one wanted to deliver any bad news to the “blue-collar hero.” As Springsteen exclaimed, “You know, you’re thinking like, ‘Hey, am I gonna sing again?’ and you know, this is one of the things I love to do best, and right now I can’t do it.”
