Watch Neil Young’s 1971 BBC Concert In Full

For true folk fans, Neil Young is the absolute gold standard to aim for. Boasting imaginative lyricism and driving compositions, Young has proven time and time again that he was a force to be reckoned with, and that he won’t conform to societal constructs that easily. Young started in the early ’60s where he was rooted in Winnepeg, meeting future folk superstars like Stephen Stills and Joni Mitchell, eventually forming ties with them to improve his songwriting process. The singer-songwriter was heavily influenced by Bob Dylan at the time, his work on songs such as “Sugar Mountain” showing his grit for the craft early in his career.

Fast forward to the 1970s, Young had already experienced several bands and solo stints like Buffalo Springfield, Crazy Horse, and Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.
