Last 2021, German TV Show Rockpalast released full-length video footage of ZZ Top 1980 performance in honor of the late Dusty Hill’s death. On a similar note, a bootlegged version of the video in clips has already been making rounds on the internet, for viewers and fans to enjoy.

Back at the start of the 80s decade, Billy Gibbons, Hill, and Frank Beard visited Germany and showcased their talents in Rockpalast, which became the home to hundreds of outstanding performances, mainly in rock, jazz, and metal. Hundreds of artists that you may know of, such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Marley and the Wailers, The Kinks, Rainbow, Linda Ronstadt, Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie, Cheap Trick, Chicago, ELO, The Cure, Duran Duran, and many more have performed there, cementing the legacy of the German program in terms of popularizing stars.

During ZZ Top’s visit at the 6th annual “Rock Night” held at the Grugahalle Arena in Essen, Germany, the band performed alongside Ian Hunter, Joan Armatrading, and The Blues Band. The bearded blues rockers, who are known for their classic hits “Legs,” “Just Got Paid,” and “La Grange,” finished the show. This was their first performance on television and their first time performing outside the United States.
