The Supremes and The Temptations, two of Motown’s most popular groups, appeared on an extended episode of The Ed Sullivan Show on November 19, 1967. Ed Sullivan and Berry Gordy had collaborated once again to put on a fantastic program that evening, and they had a surprise in store for their viewers.

The success of this musical partnership prompted NBC to have the two groups play together in a pair of primetime specials, making this performance one of the greatest ever on the show.

When Diana Ross and the Supremes took the stage first, they sang a polished version of their signature song “In and Out of Love.” When The Temptations finally took the stage, they delivered a passionate performance of “Don’t Look Back” and a reimagined take on the classic “Hello, Young Lovers.”

When actor George Hamilton finally made his appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, the audience was treated to one of the most iconic medleys in the show’s history. To everyone’s surprise, both The Supremes and The Temptations stepped onto a groovy, bright pink stage to perform songs by the other group. The Supremes performed “Get Ready” and “I’m Losing You” by The Temptations, followed by “Stop! In The Name Of Love” and “Baby Love” by The Temptations. It was awesome to see the whole ensemble, including Diana Ross, David Ruffin, Mary Wilson, Eddie Kendricks, and the rest of them.

Listen to this collection of classic songs, and prepare to have your heart melted.
