It’s a tough act to follow Freddie Mercury’s legendary voice. But, if the world wanted to relive his legacy from another person, then the role should better be given to Marc Martel, a Canadian Christian rock singer.
Martel has been an avid fan of Queen for years and his vocal talent sure helped preserved the frontman’s ever-iconic range. In the video presented below, the audience and legendary singer Celine Dion herself were wowed with Martel’s voice, even as far as Dion shedding a tear from the performance.
Singing “Somebody to Love” with choir singers to back his harmony was a moment of pure gratification to anyone who wished to revive the memory of the Queen singer. Martel sounded pretty much like Mercury, and if you close your eyes, you could hardly distinguish the two.
This wasn’t the first time that Martel was recognized for his voice; back in 2012, Queen drummer Roger Taylor held online auditions for the people who wished to become a part of the Queen Extravaganza Tour. Martel wowed the netizens with his cover of “Somebody to Love,” one of Queen’s most difficult songs to perform. He also made rounds on the internet with his facial features that quite paralleled those of Mercury’s.
You can watch the performance below.
