After several sessions and numerous attempts, the track seemed to elude completion. Engineer Richard Lush recalled Lennon’s agitated demeanor during one session, stating:

“John Lennon came to the session really stoned… he went straight to the piano and smashed the keys… and said, ‘This is it! Come on!’ He was really aggravated.”

The prolonged recording process stretched on for 42 hours, making it the lengthiest in Beatles history.
