It’s easy for Paul McCartney to find inspiration from anything. Paul McCartney talks about his song “Too Much Rain” from the album Chaos and Creation in the Backyard in the 2015 book Conversations with Paul McCartney. He claimed he wrote the tune with the intention of making those going through tough times feel better, and based the song on a famous movie star.

“Its inspiration, I must admit, is Charlie Chaplin’s ‘Smile;’ ‘Smile, though your heart is aching,’” he said. “That was at the back of my mind, one of my favorite songs,” Paul said in Conversations with Paul McCartney.

He continues: “That was just one geezer, Chaplin. Not only was he funny, he wrote ‘Smile.’ It’s like he wrote ‘Yesterday.’ A classic song. So that was it.”

Paul mentioned that music is a comfort to him. Subsequently, many have approached him to express gratitude, saying his songs got them through tough times like exams and cancer. Paul saw the immense potential in it and realized that enabling his audience had become an integral component of his work.
