Super Awkward Moment David Gilmour & Roger Waters Met Again - Watch

Back in 2005, activist Bob Geldof had an ambitious idea: reunite the classic lineup of Pink Floyd for Live 8, a global benefit concert aimed at fighting poverty. It had been 24 years since Roger Waters had shared a stage with the band, but somehow, Geldof pulled it off. To everyone’s surprise, Waters agreed to rejoin David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright for one unforgettable night.

A Historic Night at Live 8

On July 2, 2005, Pink Floyd reunited in London’s Hyde Park for a short but powerful set. Fans were thrilled to see the original members performing together again after so many years. While the moment felt magical, Gilmour was quick to set expectations. As he told Rolling Stone, “Live 8 was great, but it was a closure. How to sleep with an ex-wife.”

A Chance Meeting at the Studio

The following year, in 2006, the two former bandmates crossed paths once again—purely by coincidence. David Gilmour was preparing for his solo concert at the Royal Albert Hall and rehearsing at Bray Studios. As fate would have it, Roger Waters was using the same space.

As David explained:

“We are in Bray Studios and there are three rooms here. Two large film stages like this one and one slightly smaller one. Roger’s in one of them and we’re in the other one. Pure coincidence, strange though it may seem, hard as that may be to believe.”

Despite what could’ve been an awkward moment, both kept things civil and even friendly.

A Brief, Cordial Exchange

The encounter between Roger Waters and David Gilmour was brief but surprisingly cordial, considering their complicated history. As they crossed paths outside the rehearsal studios, Roger greeted David casually with a simple, “All right, love.” David replied that they had already been on tour and were just “knocking the rust off.” Roger asked, “Was it fun?” to which David responded, “It was fun.”

The exchange remained light, with Roger saying, “I’m looking forward to being back on the boards. Cheers. Polly,” as he acknowledged Gilmour’s wife. David replied, “See you,” and Roger added, “I’ll try and make that, if I can. Phil.” David then encouraged him, saying, “Yeah, come.” Though quick, the moment reflected a rare sense of mutual respect and nostalgia between the former bandmates.
