It does seem like drumming runs in the blood inside the Hawkins family.

The son of Foo Fighters’ late drummer Taylor Hawkins, Shane Hawkins, has won the 2022 Drumeo Performance of the Year award. The online drum lesson registry singled out the 16-year-old rocker for recognition when he played “My Hero” by Foo Fighters at two tribute performances for his father last year with the band led by Foo Fighters frontman, David Grohl.

For the award, Drumeo explained why Shane deserves to be recognized for his efforts. “16-year-old Shane Hawkins did just that, pouring his heart and soul into a live performance of “My Hero” at a tribute concert dedicated to his late father and Foo Fighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins. It touched millions of people and showed how much love, energy, and spirit can come out on the drum kit,” the caption on the site reads.

Taylor Hawkins, Shane’s father and the drummer for Foo Fighters, passed away at the age of 50 in 2022. The London and Los Angeles memorial performances were held in September of 2016 and were presented by the band and the Hawkins family, as they made a promise to carry on in his honor.
