The Rolling Stones are stirring up emotions with a brand-new visual accompaniment for a classic track. Their 1994 ballad “Out of Tears” gets the animated lyric video treatment, offering a fresh take on the melancholic breakup anthem.
This release comes just ahead of a special anniversary edition of the album that birthed the song, Voodoo Lounge. Fans can now dive deeper into the world of “Out of Tears” by watching the video, which brings the lyrics to life in a captivating way.
The visual coincides with the upcoming release of a 30th-anniversary reissue of Voodoo Lounge, pressed on a special colored double LP. This new edition promises to be a must-have for any dedicated Rolling Stones collector.
The Lineup Behind “Out of Tears”
“Out of Tears” wasn’t the biggest hit on the charts, but it held its own. Released as the second single from Voodoo Lounge after “Love Is Strong”, the song peaked at No. 60 on the Billboard Hot 100 but found a more receptive audience on the rock charts, reaching No. 14 on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock chart and No. 36 in the UK.
Musically, the track showcased the core talents of The Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger took center stage with both acoustic guitar and lead vocals, while Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood brought their electric guitar expertise to the mix. Wood even added a signature slide-guitar solo for extra flavor.
The lineup wasn’t limited to just the Stones themselves. Longtime touring keyboardist Chuck Leavell lent his piano skills to the song, while Benmont Tench, a founding member of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, rounded out the sound with his Hammond B-3 organ playing.
A Voodoo Brew and a New Era
Released on July 11, 1994, Voodoo Lounge was The Rolling Stones’ first album made without longtime bassist Bill Wyman. Wyman had left the band in 1991, although his departure from the group wasn’t announced until two years later.
Voodoo Lounge topped the U.K. albums chart and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. In addition to “Love Is Strong” and “Out of Tears”, “You Got Me Rocking”, “Sparks Will Fly”, and “I Go Wild” also were released as singles.
Wyman’s replacement, Darryl Jones, played bass on the entire album. Voodoo Lounge also featured guest appearances by Tench, soul singer Bobby Womack, trumpet player Mark Isham, accordionist Flaco Jimenez, and percussionist Lenny Castro.
Voodoo Lounge Gets a Colorful Revamp
The 30th-anniversary reissue of Voodoo Lounge promises a feast for the eyes and ears. The standard edition will be a two-LP set, with one disc pressed on vibrant red vinyl and the other on eye-catching yellow.
For hardcore fans, a deluxe version takes things a step further. This edition includes a bonus 10-inch white vinyl disc featuring four tracks that haven’t been released on vinyl before: “I’m Gonna Drive”, “So Young”, “Jump On Top of Me”, and “The Storm”, These rarities are sure to excite collectors and anyone who wants to experience a deeper cut of the Voodoo Lounge era.
The Rolling Stones’ online store is also getting in on the action, offering special bundles that pair the reissue with exclusive merchandise. Fans can snag a Voodoo Lounge hoodie, T-shirt, or slipmat alongside the remastered album, making it a perfect package to celebrate this musical milestone.
