Ringo Starr is back with a heartfelt new track, “Time On My Hands,” the first release from his upcoming album Look Up. The album, set to drop on January 10, 2024, offers something fresh from the former Beatle, diving into the country genre with a twist.

Look Up will feature 11 original songs, most of which Starr cowrote alongside famed producer T Bone Burnett. With Burnett’s unique touch, this project promises to showcase Ringo’s evolving musical journey while staying true to his roots.

“Time On My Hands” gives fans a taste of what’s to come. The song’s emotional depth and country flair are already capturing attention and setting high expectations for the full release.

Ringo Starr’s Love for Country Music Shines

Ringo Starr not only plays drums and sings on his new album Look Up, but he also helped cowrite one of its tracks. The album features several exciting collaborations with artists like Alison Krauss, Billy Strings, Larkin Poe, Lucius, and Molly Tuttle.

In a press release, Starr shared his deep connection to the genre, saying, “I’ve always loved country music.” His passion for the style is evident throughout the album, especially in his work with producer T Bone Burnett.

When Starr first asked Burnett to write him a song, he wasn’t expecting it to be country. But, to his delight, it turned out beautifully, blending his love for country music with his signature sound.

Ringo’s Country Comeback

Originally, Ringo planned to release a country EP. But when T Bone Burnett presented him with nine songs, Starr knew this had to be a full album. Grateful for the collaboration, he sent his thanks, saying, “Peace and love to T Bone and all the great musicians who helped make this record.”

This project marks a nostalgic return to the genre that kickstarted Starr’s solo career in 1970 with his country-inspired album Beaucoup of Blues. Starr had hinted at this new album earlier in the year, sharing that he was working closely with Burnett.

Starr’s connection to country music goes back even further. Several of his Beatles songs, like “Act Naturally,” “What Goes On,” and “Don’t Pass Me By,” were rooted in country, showing his longstanding love for the genre.

A Longtime Collaboration Reimagined

Ringo Starr’s collaboration with T Bone Burnett dates back to the 1970s. They recently reconnected at an event in Los Angeles, where Starr invited Burnett to write a song for an upcoming EP. Instead of just one song, Burnett presented enough material for a full album, marking Starr’s first release since 2019.

Burnett has long admired Starr, stating, “I have loved Ringo Starr and his playing and his singing and his aesthetic for as long as I can remember.” He emphasized Starr’s influence, noting how the drummer transformed the way future drummers approached their craft.

Starr’s unique style extends beyond drumming; Burnett praised his ability to deliver both energetic rockabilly tunes and poignant ballads. This blend of musical talents has made their collaboration a highly anticipated project in the music world.

A Dream Realized Through Music

For T Bone Burnett, collaborating with Ringo Starr feels like the fulfillment of a 60-year dream. He reflects on how his musical journey would not have been possible without Starr and The Beatles. This album serves as Burnett’s heartfelt way to express gratitude for all that Starr has contributed to music.

To celebrate the album’s release, Starr will perform two shows at Nashville’s iconic Ryman Auditorium on January 14 and 15. These performances are a chance for fans to experience the magic of their collaboration live.

Tickets for the shows will go on sale starting October 25, offering fans an opportunity to witness this special event. It’s a moment that promises to honor the legacy of both artists and their shared passion for music.
