In a recent episode of The Osbournes podcast, Ozzy Osbourne didn’t hesitate to declare the 1980s as his favorite decade. When asked by his daughter Kelly about his preferred era, Ozzy quickly pointed to the ’80s, citing the abundance of music during that time.

“The ’80s generation. There was a lot of music in the ’80s,” remarked Ozzy, expressing his fondness for the decade. “The ’70s were alright as well, but if I had to pick a best decade, I’d say the ’80s.”

Reflecting on his personal experiences, Ozzy highlighted the enjoyment he had during the ’80s, especially the moments spent with his mother.

“The ’80s is when I branched out on my own. I had so much fun with me and mum,” he shared.

Sharon’s Perspective: Nostalgia for the ’70s

While Ozzy favored the ’80s, his wife Sharon leaned towards the ’70s, emphasizing the rapid changes that occurred during that period.

“I think the ’70s were so great cause things were changing so quickly [snaps fingers]. Everything was changing,” remarked Sharon.

However, Ozzy noted a significant shift when the ’90s arrived, recalling the feeling of abrupt change and the rapid passage of time.

“We turned the ’80s off and the ’90s began. Things were all changed. I really remember that,” he recounted. “The ’90s went so quickly for me, it’s like someone turned the lights out.”

Generational Contrasts: Boomers vs. Gen Z

The discussion delved into the contrasting experiences of different generations, with Sharon reminiscing about the strict discipline of their own upbringing compared to the freedoms afforded to today’s youth.

“There is no comparison, no comparison at all cause kids were seen and not heard,” recalled Sharon. “If you were at school and you misbehaved (mimes being hit with a ruler). At home, same thing.”

Ozzy added his perspective, highlighting the drastic difference in societal behavior, especially concerning violence.

“You wouldn’t ever …. go and get a gun and shoot people at school,” he remarked.

The couple also discussed the challenges faced by today’s youth, particularly the overwhelming presence of social media and its impact on mental health.

“The information that the younger generation has now, I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. Too much of anything is too much,” observed Ozzy.

“It’s hard being a kid at any time, but now with social media it’s really fucking difficult,” added Sharon. “There’s too much information being thrown at them all day long. There’s people displaying themselves. Everything, it’s just hard, hard to be a kid right now. I understand that.”

The episode also featured an amusing segment where Kelly quizzed her parents on Gen Z slang, providing a lighthearted touch to the conversation.
