Mick Mars, guitarist extraordinaire and former member of Mötley Crüe, has taken the rock world by storm. Since his departure from the band, Mars has arguably become one of the most talked-about figures in the genre, with news surrounding him popping up regularly.

While a successful solo album was anticipated, the sheer dominance of his debut has exceeded all expectations.

As of today, based on a chart released by Mars himself, The Other Side of Mars has secured the coveted number one spot on the iTunes Charts. This impressive feat is further amplified by the presence of another rock legend, Ace Frehley, holding the second place.

This one-two punch from seasoned veterans of the scene is a testament to the enduring power of rock and roll and the enduring popularity of these iconic musicians.

“I must still be dreaming”

In a message overflowing with surprise and gratitude, Mars took to Instagram to express his feelings about his album’s success. “Woke up to finding myself at the top of the iTunes Charts and thought I must still be dreaming,” he wrote, clearly still in disbelief.

He continued by thanking his fans for their unwavering support, and also extended his appreciation to both iTunes and Spotify for featuring his album.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for rock music. The Other Side of Mars has soared to the top of the global charts, surrounded by established names in pop and rap like Kanye West and Twice.

The fact that two rock veterans have claimed the top spot is a powerful testament to the enduring influence of the genre and the continued popularity of its iconic figures.

A well-deserved recognition

The former Mötley Crüe guitarist embarked on his solo journey with the release of The Other Side of Mars on February 23, 2024.

Released on his own label, 1313, LLC, and MRI, the album was recorded in Nashville with producer Michael Wagener and a band featuring Jacob Bunton, Paul Taylor, and Ray Luzier.

This debut arrived after Mars’ departure from Mötley Crüe in 2022. He had previously retired from touring with the band due to his ongoing battle with ankylosing spondylitis. The release also coincided with a lawsuit he filed against the band in 2023.

Though Mars intended the album title to showcase a different side of his musicality, critics found the sound largely familiar. Falling under the categories of grunge and hard rock, The Other Side of Mars received positive reviews, with particular praise directed towards the lead vocals by Bunton.

Charting his course after Mötley Crüe

Following his departure from his old band in 2022, many fans have been curious about Mick Mars’ future endeavors. Due to ongoing health struggles, particularly his battle with ankylosing spondylitis, physically demanding activities are no longer an option for him.

However, he remains dedicated to music and plans to continue making significant contributions in the studio.

In a recent interview, Mars even expressed his openness to rejoining Mötley Crüe for studio work, stating that he would be available if the band wanted him. This news sparked hope among fans who yearn for a potential reunion, although the future of the band remains uncertain.

Beyond music, Mars revealed a personal aspiration to write his own autobiography. However, with a touch of dark humor, he stated that he would only embark on this project when he feels he is “on his deathbed”.
