Michael McDonald performs solo and Doobie Brothers hits at home - NPR Music / Youtube

Due to coronavirus concerns and efforts to slow down and stop its spread, NPR has been bringing their Tiny Desk Concert series to the homes of their guest artists instead. This time, it’s Michael McDonald, who many of you know from his tenure with the Doobie Brothers. The soulful crooner performed his set from his own home in Santa Barbara, California.

McDonald opened his set with an evocative number of his solo track, “Matters Of The Heart”, and said, “Hope you’re all staying healthy and staying safe out there.” He added, “Wishing you all the best of luck and Godspeed through this event we’re all living through.”

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee went into the Doobie Brothers segment – who have just been inducted as well – by inviting fans watching to “sing along at home. I won’t know if you’re singing well or not, because I can’t hear you here.” He launched into the classic “Minute By Minute” and then the top hit “What A Fool Believes”, belting his baritone richness just like he did in his prime years.
