Ex-Zephead extraordinaire John Paul Jones has recently announced his participation on a new project called Sons Of Chipotle, where he will be performing live at the Pit in Tokyo, Japan, on the 3rd and 5th of September.

JPJ will be teaming up with a renowned cellist from Finland, Anssi Karttunen in the band. Karttunen is considered as one of the prime virtuousos of modern cello playing, and has performed with the top symphonies of the industry, which includes London, Los Angeles, and Paris.

John Paul Jones’ website proudly declares the collaboration between the two great minds, “Both musicians are known to be curious minds, always ready to learn and to discover. When they improvise, borders disappear, they are free to migrate beyond prejudices, across continents. In a world where walls are being built and people are told where they cannot go, Sons of Chipotle want music to be a place of openness.”

Sons of Chipotle is just one of the many ventures Jones touched following his career post-Zeppelin. 2009 saw his collaboration with Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme to form the epic Them Cooked Vultures, and some projects with Heart, R.E.M., and other avant-garde artists.
