Keith Richards decided to quit his smoking habit by going cold turkey. Video of the Rolling Stones guitarist can be seen below. This sudden urge to quit his 55-year routine came knocking on his door right after he made some changes in his drinking lifestyle.

In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, he told the daytime show that he didn’t miss smoking tobacco. “I got a few patches for a few weeks. Sometimes, you know, a bell rings, something inside says, ‘Hey, pal – enough!’  So, I just put the hammer on it.”

When asked why that bell suddenly rang for him at that moment, he replied: “Probably getting on a bit! … Luckily, I don’t miss it, and that makes me feel good.” He also found out after a rehearsal last August that he had “10 times more wind” in him.

But what he did miss though was the Rolling Stones drummer and his good friend, Charlie Watts. The death of Watts last year came as a shock to him, although he had assumed that the latter was terribly ill since. “I think he’d been trying to keep it under the wraps for a while last year, Richards said. “He had had a round with cancer a year or two before, and he’d beat that one. He just got hit with a double whammy, bless his soul,” he added.
