The original, handwritten lyrics for The Beatles 1968 hit, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, written by George Harrison himself, is now up for grabs via an auction sale. Handled by memorabilia company Moments In Time, the lyrics carry an asking price of $195, 000 USD.

This landmark track of the Fab Four is part of the iconic The Beatles (The White Album) catalog. Harrison did the usual Lennon-McCartney creative tandem a good one with “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, being one of his few but titanic contributions to the band’s discography. It is also the only track to feature an outside musician, who was no other than the iconic blues legend, Eric Clapton.

Being close friends with Clapton, Harrison offered him the proposal while the two were on their way to London. I was driving into London with Eric and I said, ‘What are you doing today? Why don’t you come to the studio and play on this song for me?’” Caught by surprise, Clapton accepted the offer and went on to record some of the most memorable solos in musical history.

This piece of Beatles history even has Ringo Starr’s spelling corrections, along with the prototype for the song’s lyrical content.
