A Wild Night in New York

Elton John, despite his struggles with addiction, eventually found sobriety. Still, he doesn’t shy away from discussing his wilder days. In Elton John: Never Too Late, he recalled a night with John Lennon where they had “c*ke” coming out of their noses in a New York hotel.

The night took a strange turn when there was a knock at the door. Elton panicked, thinking it was the police. He tried to stay as quiet as possible, frozen in place.

Finally, Elton checked the peephole and saw it was Andy Warhol. “I went to John, ‘Andy,’ and John went, ‘No way!’ So he kept ringing the bell,” Elton laughed.

Keeping It Between Them

Knowing Warhol’s obsession with capturing everything on camera, Elton made a quick decision. He decided to keep the night just between him and Lennon. “That was the fun part of c*caine,” he joked.

Lennon, on the other hand, seemed to have settled down once he found love with Yoko Ono. Although their relationship had its ups and downs, Elton loved seeing Lennon happy. “They did get back together and they had Sean. He became in love again, and so his wildness… stopped the drugs, stopped the craziness.”

While Lennon had found peace, Elton wasn’t quite ready to calm down. He admitted, “It didn’t stop my craziness.”
